AMARAVATI: TDP National General Secretary Nara Lokesh on Wednesday accused the Jaganmohan Reddy Government of watching like a silent spectator while atrocities on Dalits were continuing unabated all over Andhra Pradesh.
Lokesh said in a latest incident, the ruling YSRCP leaders assaulted Marri Jagan at Tekkelipatnam village in Palasa mandal in Srikakulam district. Marri Jagan was attacked just for seeking house site patta. When the Dalit youth went to complain at the police station, the CI concerned attacked, chased and kicked Marri Jagan with his leg fitted with boots. The CI had also slapped the hapless victim without even listening to what he had to say. The attack took place right before the eyes of the victim’s mother.
In a statement here, the TDP leader recalled how Dalit youth Y. Kiran Kumar was brutally attacked leading to his death in Chirala just for not wearing a face mask. Another Dalit named Vara Prasad was tonsured and humiliated for objecting to illegal sand transporation. The police were acting like YSRCP leaders and were breaking the rules in order to favour the ruling party leaders. The Government should correct its mistakes and take stringent action against the officials who were harassing the public.
It may be recalled that Marri Jagan came under attack after he questioned the YSRCP leaders about why his family was not being given house site patta. Later, he was also beaten by the police. The incident stirred a big controversy in Srikakulam district.
The TDP has been agitating against the Government for not taking strong action against the culprits involved in atrocities against Dalits. The Opposition party has flayed the YSRCP for harassing Dalit doctors, Dr. Sudhakar and Dr. Anitha Rani just for questioning the illegal activities of the ruling party leaders. Ex MP Harsha Kumar was put in prison for criticising the Government. Mahasena Rajesh was implicated in false cases for raising a dissenting voice against the Jagan Reddy regime.
