As you are aware that the month of Muharram is observed across India as a unique and representative of a non-tangible Indian culture and heritage, though Muharram is believed to be an Islamic event (commemoration), Martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain Grand son of Holy Prophet of Islam Hazrat Mohammed (saws) however the rituals and related processes are purely adapted from ancient time as national heritage which are contrary to other Islamic events wherein it is of Middle Eastern origin.
Mir Firasath Ali Baqri said that the month of the martyrdom of the Prophet Mohammed’s grandson Hazrat Imam Husain (a.s.), became a part of the Indian folklore and were translated in to all Indian scheduled and unscheduled languages both in verses and practices moulded according to the taste of people.
As per to the study of a popular consensus It is found & believed that Muharram in India is observed as an essential, mandatory and unbroken religious tradition in almost 4.8 lakh villages by about 60 crore Indians representing a milieu of all social-Religious groups depicting Its local culture and favour. The events and the venues of these Muharram events (commemoration) are revered and has become a part of faith of the Indians.
In view of the present Covid-19 pandemic, it would indeed be unfortunate if its practices are broken in modern independent India which constitutionally recognizes and guarantees freedom of religion and faith, which includes the freedom to observe and practice religion and faith as mandated by constitution and Religion.
It is humbly submitted that you, Sir, as the holding position in Government of India at this historic juncture of time may kindly initiate and organize a national online virtual meeting with all the state governments and major stakeholders by guiding them with relevant facts with respect to the conduct of the Muharram rituals without endangering public health by following the Covid-19 Guidelines andprotocols issued by the Govt. authorities and also sustain the duty to safeguard the rights of traditions of our great nation.
Mir Firasath Ali Baqri may again reiterate that your initiative in this regard which is of national importance because of its nature of national integrity and secularism shall be remembered in the historical records of India.
