Centre-ICMR not accepting AP Govt’s bogus testing claims: TDP

AMARAVATI: Telugu Desam Party Spokesperson Kommareddy Pattabhi Ram on Friday flayed the YSRCP Government for ‘betraying and misleading’ the people with its bogus testing claims thereby causing an unchecked spike in Covid cases and related deaths in Andhra Pradesh.

Pattabhi demanded the Government to answer to the people why AP did not find a mention in the list of 31 States and Union Territories that were conducting more than 140 virus tests per day per million population. Maharashtra was doing 406 tests, Tamil Nadu 906, Delhi 1,041, Karnataka 564 and Kerala 212 This was evidence enough that the Jagan Reddy regime was bluffing till now that AP was Number 1 in testing while actually the State could not even find a place in the Central list.

Addressing a press conference here, the TDP leader asserted that it was now clear that the Union Health Department and the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) did not even acknowledge the testing claims of AP. There was confusion about what sort of tests were being conducted in AP. The most reliable RT-PCR testing labs were just 21 in AP as against the total number of 682 labs in the country. These labs should be increased by another 50 and there should be four to five RT-PCR labs in each of the 13 districts. The ruling party leaders were not addressing such crucial aspects in their eagerness to cover up their failures.

Pattabhi Ram said that it was a shame that the Centre was not recognising the thousands of Coronavirus tests being conducted by AP Government. Due to bogus testing claims and inordinate delays in test results, many people were unable to get timely medical care and were eventually dying before their disease was diagnosed. Lack of oxygen supply and Covid treatment, supply of poor quality of food and substandard ambulance services were causing a kind of medical emergency in AP.

Stating that up to 10 days delay was caused in Covid test results, Mr. Pattabhi demanded the Central Government to interfere and form a special Task Force to save the lives of AP people from the epidemic. The Jagan regime’s negligence has led to AP having a very low recovery of less than 50 per cent as against 65 per cent national average and that of 75 per cent in some states. Thousands of ambulances were there but the people were being made to wait for 7 to 8 hours to get these services.

Pattabhi demanded the AP Government to answer to the people why AP was surpassing even Maharashtra in new Covid cases every day in the past few days. It was obvious that the ruling party’s claims on testing were bogus. AP has now emerged as the worst affected of all the Indian states. Going by the constant rise in cases, AP was bent upon crossing Delhi total cases so as to climb to the 3rd place among Covid-affected States in the country soon.
