AMARAVATI: Telugu Desam Party former Minister Bandaru Satyanrayana Murthy on Thursday accused Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy of launching a misinformation campaign against the TDP on the issue of land acquisition for the house sites distribution.
Murthy asserted that it was the unlawful and unconstitutional activities that were landing the Jagan Reddy regime into court cases and not because of the Opposition.
Addressing a press conference here, the TDP leader clarified to the YSRCP government that the Dalits and Backward Classes were only fighting legal battles for their fundamental rights on the lands. The weaker sections would not keep silent if their lands were being taken away though they have enjoyed the same for over 40 to 50 years. In the name of house sites distribution, the YSRCP Rajahmundry MP was looting lots of public money in East Godavari district. Even the Chief Minister knew about all these irregularities.
Satyanarayana Murthy flayed the ruling party leaders for ‘plundering’ the NREGS funds in the name of acquisition and levelling of the lands under house sites programmes. If the YSRCP was confident of transparency and justice in this programme, it should accept the challenge for a public debate on this scam.
The TDP ex Minister charged the government for ‘not ensuring’ fairness in the lists of beneficiaries. Nearly 70 per cent of the 30 lakh beneficiaries were fake. The really deserving poor families were not getting the house site benefit. The ruling party has submitted a report to the Centre saying that over 10.57 lakh families have no house site in the state but now the government was making tall claims on distributing 30 lakh house sites.
Murthy said that the ruling party leaders bagged huge margins by getting the government to purchase private lands at far higher rates than the market values. The acquisition of assignment lands from the Dalits and weaker sections naturally triggered a massive backlash against the government.
