ICMR Defends Move to Fast-track Covid-19 Vaccine Trials amid Criticism

After Announcement of Covid 19 Vaccine will launch by August 15th, the ICMR on Saturday Said that the development process of indigenous vaccine is as per globally accepted norms of fast tracking and it also at the interest of the people of India is the top priority.

The ICMR Statement Came in wake of Criticism From Experts on Fast track Clinical Trials.

Yesterday, The ICMR said it has identified 12 clinical trial sites, including medical institutions and hospitals, and asked their principal investigators to ensure the subject enrolment is initiated no later than July 7. The trial sites included AIIMS, New Delhi, AIIMS, Patna and SRM Medical College Hospital and Research Centre in Tamil Nadu.

Recently Drug Controller General of India(DCGI) given nod for human clinical trials from the COVID-19 vaccine candidate Covaxin, developed by the Hyderabad-based Bharat Biotech International Limited (BBIL) in collaboration with the ICMR and the National Institute of Virology (NIV)
