AMARAVATI: TDP National President N Chandrababu Naidu on Thursday sought the intervention of AP Governor Biswabhushan Harichandan to stop destruction of all democratic institutions by the YCP Government and to restore the Rule of Law in the State of Andhra Pradesh.
In a letter addressed to the Governor here, Mr. Naidu said that the Government is relentlessly pursuing anti-people policies and pushing the State towards reign of jungle raj. The Supreme Court of India and the High Court of Andhra Pradesh have continuously reprimanded or struck down unconstitutional laws and policies. However, the ruling party is trying to subvert and undermine the judicial orders in order to continue to implement the same government orders (GOs) with minor changes.
The TDP chief told the Governor that the YSRCP leaders are involved in neck-deep corruption in sand, land, liquor, and mines among other aspects. Since the leaders and cadre of the opposition party, TDP, are raising their voice against this, the Government in return is attacking them psychologically, financially and physically, apart from threatening them with false cases. As a result, there is strong resentment and opposition among the people of Andhra Pradesh against the YSRCP-led Government. Harassment of Dalits, BCs, Minorities and women is rampant. The Government has been suppressing dissenting voices in Andhra Pradesh in general and particularly targeting weaker and downtrodden sections of the society. Earlier, Dr. Sudhakar Rao and Dr. Anitha Rani, both belonging to Dalit community, were targeted and harassed by the YSRCP-led Government. Harsha Kumar, former MP to Lok Sabha, a Dalit leader, has been arrested for criticizing the Government in the issue of Kachuluru boat accident. Similarly, a case was filed against Saripella Rajesh of Mahasena organisation and was arrested. It is appalling to witness the unleashing of violence by using Government machinery against the very people that the Government is supposed to protect and serve. Ranganayakkama was arrested and CB-CID enquiry was ordered against her for raising dissent against the Government in the context of Styrene Gas leak from LG Polymers.
The TDP chief pointed out that the High Court of Andhra Pradesh had ordered CBI inquiry into Dr. Sudhakar Rao’s case, which clearly shows the manner in which the Government is using state machinery to harass Dalits, Minorities, Women and BCs. Earlier, the High Court has ordered CBI inquiry against the police for illegally detaining people. In March 2020, Bonda Umamaheswara Rao, former MLA, and Budda Venkanna, MLC, along with Kishore, an advocate, have visited Macherla town to complain to the local election officer about the gross violation of election code. In broad daylight in the middle of Macherla town, they were attacked as they were travelling in the vehicle. An attempt was made to murder them, but fortunately they escaped with grievous injuries to Kishore while the leaders received minor injuries.
Mr. Naidu said the executive in our country continues to remain as the backbone of our democracy. But today, the YSRCP Government is threatening bureaucrats and has injected a sense of fear among the executive leading to their lack of effective functioning. YSRCP-led Government is also undermining judiciary by not implementing the judgments or orders given by the Courts. Simultaneously, media houses are issued threats with dire consequences in the event of publication or airing of anti-Government news. The ruling party has brought in GO No. 2430 to threaten and control the media with cases. In addition to the attack on freedom of press, the Government is trying to suppress dissent voice on social media too.
Mr. Naidu further said a false FIR was registered against Chintakayala Ayyanna Patrudu, former Minister for Roads & Buildings, under sections pertaining to the Nirbhaya Act. In a matter of four days, the YSRCP-led Government has filed cases against three former cabinet ministers belonging to BC community. In all, cases were filed against six TDP leaders and three of them were arrested. This clearly shows the vendetta attitude of the ruling party against the opposition, TDP. In reality, the YSRCP Government’s vendetta politics has its roots in 2012 disproportionate assets cases against the present Chief Minister, YS Jaganmohan Reddy. Late Kinjarapu Yerrannaidu along with Ashok Gajapati Raju, both TDP leaders, have impleaded in the disproportionate assets case against YS Jaganmohan Reddy, based on which the CBI investigation was ordered and subsequently Jaganmohan Reddy was jailed for 16 months.
The TDP chief said the AP Council Chairperson and TDP leaders pleaded to discuss the more important Appropriation Bill to avoid delay in payment of the salaries of Government employees but the ruling party leaders did not heed. Even when voting was pleaded for to decide priority issues for discussion, the ruling YSRCP went against and created ruckus in the Council. Moreover, the issues pertaining to CRDA and capital shift are sub judice and pending with the High Court of Andhra Pradesh. The Advocate General of the Government has committed in an affidavit to the High Court that the above two bills are sent to the Select Committee. Such arm-twisting tactics are new to Andhra Pradesh and such tactics are vitiating the democratic atmosphere in the State. The ruling party is continuously attacking opposition TDP leaders, cadre, and supporters in ways and means that are unheard hitherto. As a result, the Constitution, Rule of Law and democracy has turned into casualties.
