AMARAVATI: Telugu Desam Party National President and former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday slammed AP Chief Minister YS Jaganmohan Reddy for ‘running away from’ the TDP’s challenge to seek a fresh mandate from the Andhra Pradesh voters on his proposed 3 Capitals move.
Naidu appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi to interfere and solve the Amaravati Capital issue just like the way he has resolved the vexed problem of Ayodhya.
The TDP chief addressed a press conference here after the expiry of his earlier 48-hour deadline even as CM Jagan Reddy had not given his response on Naidu’s demand to withdraw the Capital shifting decision or go for fresh elections as a referendum. “The ruling YSRCP leaders ran away from our challenge like cowards. This Chief Minister says he comes from a family that stands by its word and never breaks promises. Now, his actions show his government has no credibility. The CM has no authority to change State Capital as per his whims and fancies,” said Mr. Naidu.
The TDP chief hailed the PM for solving and finally laying the foundation stone for Ayodhya Temple, saying that it was a lasting solution for a long-pending issue that marked nation-wide ‘Kar Sevas’ and ‘Rath Yatras’. Just like how sacred soil was brought from 2,000 shrines and purified water brought from 100 rivers for Ayodhya foundation, sacred soil and water was brought from 171 shrines and 35 rivers for Amaravati Capital foundation. Prime Minister Modi himself fetched soil from the Parliament and water from the Yamuna when he laid the foundation stone for Amaravati.
The TDP chief asserted that the Parliament was witness to how Mr. Modi held out an assurance to the 5 crore of AP people that the Central Government would do everything possible to develop Amaravati into a great Capital city. The Centre warned the Jagan Reddy Government several times on the cancellation of PPEs relating to global solar companies. Those investors’ problems were finally solved at the intervention of the Centre and with the orders of the courts. In respect of Amaravati also, the MoUs were signed with 29,000 farmers who gave away 33,000 acres of their ancestral lands for constructing Capital for all 5 crore people. It would be the duty of the Central government also to protect the rights and future of these farmers as well as the whole State.
Naidu asked CM Jagan Reddy whether he had no confidence in his own decision regarding trifurcation of Capitals or whether he was afraid to face the AP voters on this issue. The Congress made a similar grievous mistake by bifurcating the united AP without taking the people’s approval. The Congress paid a heavy price because it did not correct its mistake despite the massive protests by the people and Opposition parties at that time. Now also, all sections of people including the activists of Jagan Reddy’s own YSRCP were making humble appeals for stopping destruction of Amaravati Capital. It is time for the AP CM to realise his folly and take corrective measures.
Stating that the Capital shifting was a complex issue, Mr. Chandrababu Naidu told the AP CM that he had no authority to create 3 Capitals whichever he liked since the people’s will would alway prevail ultimately in a democratic country like India. Moreover, CM Jagan Reddy had no moral right going by how he and his party leaders made lots of assurances for retaining Amaravati as Capital at the time of 2019 elections. Mr. Naidu showed several videos of the CM, his party Ministers and MLAs making clear promises to voters not to change AP Capital during electioneering.
