No arrests made based on report against LG Polymers: TDP

AMARAVATI: Telugu Desam Party MLC P. Ashok Babu on Tuesday demanded an explanation to the people why the YCP Government was not making any arrests even though the High Power Committee clearly found fault with the LG Polymers management on gas leak tragedy.

Mr. Ashok Babu said the report picked up holes in over 13 instances in which the company management could not take preventive measures against the gas leak that left 13 persons dead and many others injured besides putting Visakhapatnam people’s lives at risk.

Addressing a press conference here, the TDP MLC said that the High Power Committee clearly pointed out how the LG Polymers was totally negligent in handling the styrene gas tank which was built over 50 years ago. There were no proper inspections of the temperature maintenance and no proper keeping of the log book for maintenance. Even the change of pipes was not tackled as per a procedure.

Mr. Ashok Babu asked why the officials did not investigate into the failure of even 35 alarms present in the company premises to alert the people at the time of the mishap. In its 4,000-page report, the Committee raised lots of issues wherein the management was thoroughly exposed. But, even then, the AP Government did not initiate any action based on the Committee report till now.

The TDP MLC asked why neither the Chief Minister nor the Home Minister nor the DGP were making any efforts to order the arrest of the management. On the other hand, the styrene gas was evacuated and sent to Korea. Clearly, the tragedy took place because of the greedy attempt by YCP leaders to make pet bottles for their liquor mafia activities. This was why the mishap was being suppressed at the cost of safety and security of local people.
