Stop neglecting Covid warriors, Congress tells KCR Govt

Hyderabad, September 19: Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Treasurer Gudur Narayana Reddy has alleged that the State Government was totally neglecting the frontline warriors in the battle against Coronavirus.

Narayana Reddy, in a media statement on Saturday, said that the frontline warriors including doctors, para-medical staff, police personnel, sanitation workers, journalists and others were not receiving required help from the State Government. He said these frontline warriors have been risking their lives every day to protect the people’s lives from the deadly Coronavirus. However, they were not getting the required medical attention after they get infected with Covid-19. He alleged that the police personnel were not getting free treatment under ‘Aarogya Bhadra scheme’ due to the non-payment of dues by the State Government to private hospitals.

“It is highly unfortunate that Chief Minister K. Chandrashekhar Rao did not hold a single meeting to check the facilities being provided to frontline warriors. The State Government is not maintaining any data of frontline warriors who are getting infected with Covid-19 and even those who succumbed due to the disease. This is nothing, but an utter form of showing disrespect to people who are risking their lives to save others,” he alleged.

Narayana Reddy said that both the Central and State Governments were calling the frontline workers as warriors against Covid-19, but not willing to recognise them as martyrs in case they die doing their job. “The Central Govt went on record in the Parliament admitting that it was not having the data of doctors who died due to Covid-19. It simply shifted the blame on State Governments saying that it was their duty to maintain the data as Health was a State-subject. This is completely inhumane. Unfortunately, the situation is much worse in Telangana where TRS Govt is not maintaining any data of frontline workers,” he said.

“TRS Govt has been tampering or manipulating data of Coronavirus cases and deaths in Telangana State. Therefore, we cannot expect this government to maintain authentic data of deaths of Covid warriors,” he alleged while demanding that CM KCR change his approach immediately. He pointed that when CM KCR faced criticism for not attending the last rites of martyr Col. Santosh Babu, he immediately rushed to his house in Nalgonda and paid ex-gratia of Rs. 5 crore, allocated the house site to his family and appointed Col. Santosh Babu’s widow as Deputy Collector. Everyone knows that KCR acted promptly to protect his image and cover up the sin of not honouring a martyr. Similarly, he said that the Chief Minister must take immediate steps to help the families of frontline warriors who died due to Covid-19.

Narayana Reddy demanded that the entire list of frontline warriors who were infected with Covid-19 and those who achieved martyrdom must be placed in public domain so as to enlighten the people about their sacrifices.
