The truth has finally prevailed, the All India Minority Front (AIMF) said on Tuesday after the Allahabad High Court’s order to set aside the detention of Dr Kafeel Khan under the National Security Act (NSA) and ordering his release.
Taking a jibe at the Yogi Adityanath government in Uttar Pradesh, the AIMF chief, Mr SM Asif hoped that it would honour the Allahabad High Court’s ruling and release Dr Kafeel Khan without any impediment.
Mr Asif has accused the BJP government of “trampling” democracy in the state by misusing the power and termed the arrest of Dr Kafeel Khan as illegal, undemocratic and condemnable.
“Minority people including Muslims are being harassed across the state by the Yogi government and being implicated in false cases. The state government is oppressive and is trampling democracy by misusing power,” Mr Asif said in a statement on Tuesday.
Dr Khan was arrested from Mumbai in January this year, for allegedly giving a provocative speech at the Aligarh Muslim University on December 13, 2019, amidst the anti-CAA protests.
The present habeas corpus plea was moved by Khan’s mother, Nuzhat Perween.
